Calderdale Royal Hospital is undergoing a major £200m+ redevelopment programme to expand its facilities and enhance long-term healthcare provision. The scheme involves integrating new infrastructure with existing services within a live hospital environment, requiring careful coordination and minimal disruption.
The Challenge
The project required the safe and efficient routing of essential services, including gas infrastructure, across the site. Delivery was constrained by:
A tight construction programme
The need to maintain continuous hospital operations
Exposure to regular vehicle traffic across service areas
The Solution
Approximately 350 metres of precast Utility Troughs were supplied to Heffernan Utilities to house gas pipework across the site. Key product features:
D400-rated lids, suitable for areas with sustained vehicle loading
Readily available stock, supporting programme continuity
Precast format, enabling efficient installation on site
The Outcome
The availability of Utility Troughs helped maintain project progress, supporting on-time delivery within a live healthcare environment. The installation forms part of a wider infrastructure upgrade being delivered by Heffernan Utilities, including high-voltage connections, deep drainage, and a new intake substation.
