Bespoke concrete roof slabs for a fusion reactor

Ibstock’s Rail & Infrastructure team supported a pioneering fusion reactor development in Oxfordshire with the supply of bespoke precast concrete roof slabs. 

Working closely with the project’s designers and contractor, we engineered an innovative solution that significantly reduced complexity and cost. The original design required more than 300 units, but through collaborative refinement, we delivered a streamlined package of around 60 larger precast slabs — cutting both installation time and overall cost. 

Given the highly specialised nature of the scheme, the slabs incorporated Basalt reinforcement, offering enhanced performance and durability in a challenging environment. 

This project showcases how technical innovation, close collaboration, and manufacturing expertise can combine to deliver real efficiencies on complex infrastructure schemes.
